Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

IAC is committed to maintaining a professional working and learning environment for its women employees, students and guests. The IIC @ IAC is constituted to help maintain a harmonious atmosphere at the college, to enable women to pursue their work with dignity and reassurance and to investigate and recommend actions on all acts of harassment against any woman faculty, staff or student. The Committee has been working to raise awareness on gender equality issues.

In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the UGC and Supreme Court, Indo-American College, Cheyyar has established an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) dedicated to gender sensitization and addressing complaints related to sexual harassment.

Objective: The ICC at Indo-American College, Cheyyar is committed to:

  • Preventing and prohibiting incidents of sexual harassment against female students and employees within the college.
  • Sensitizing all members of the college community about their fundamental rights to a safe and healthy environment.

Composition: The ICC comprises representatives from various segments of the college community:

  • Presiding Officer: [Name and Designation]

  • Student Members: President, Student Union; Secretary, Girls’ Common Room
  • Local Members: [Names]

Scope: The ICC has exclusive jurisdiction to receive and address complaints from female students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff of the college.

Procedure: The ICC follows a structured procedure for addressing complaints:

  1. The aggrieved person must lodge the complaint with the college authority.
  2. The college authority forwards the complaint to the ICC for necessary action.
  3. The ICC conducts a meeting to review the complaint and decides on further steps, including conducting an inquiry.
  4. Following the inquiry, the ICC recommends appropriate actions, which may include apology, disciplinary measures, or referral to legal authorities.

Sexual Harassment: Sexual harassment encompasses unwelcome sexually determined behavior, including physical contact, demands for sexual favors, sexually colored remarks, and other verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature. The ICC is committed to creating a safe and fearless environment for reporting and addressing instances of sexual harassment.

Redressal Methods: The ICC employs various methods for addressing complaints, including:

  • Recording complaints in a standardized format.
  • Granting interim relief to complainants.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and principles of natural justice.
  • Conducting formal inquiries in a fair and gender-sensitive manner.
  • Submitting comprehensive inquiry reports.

Principles: The ICC adheres to the following directive principles:

  • Orientation towards Education and Redressal

Activities: The ICC engages in activities aimed at creating awareness and preventing sexual harassment, including:

  • Displaying information about its programs on notice boards.
  • Organizing seminars, special talks, and competitions.
