Indo-American College (IAC) upholds self-discipline as the cornerstone of academic excellence, harmony, and growth. The following rules and regulations ensure a conducive environment for all:

Disciplinary Responsibility

  • The Principal, Heads, Tutors-in-charge, and Teachers are responsible for maintaining discipline on campus.
  • Disciplinary actions, including dismissal, may be taken against students involved in disruptive activities, both on and off-campus.
  • Ragging is strictly prohibited. Students involved in ragging will face severe consequences as per Government of Tamil Nadu regulations, including dismissal, imprisonment, and fines.

Behavioral Expectations

  • Inappropriate remarks, vulgar behavior, threats, exploitation, and similar misconduct are strictly prohibited.
  • Violations will result in disciplinary action ranging from warnings to expulsion.

Rules and Regulations

  • College rules will be periodically updated to align with institutional policies and guidelines.
  • Disciplinary actions will be conducted fairly, with opportunities for appeal and representation for the affected parties.

College Timing

  • The college operates from 9:40 AM to 3:45 PM.
  • First bell: 9:40 AM; Second bell: 9:45 AM (morning) and 1:40 PM; 1:45 PM (afternoon).
  • Students must be seated in class when the first bell rings.

Student Conduct

  • Students should be in class when the teacher arrives and sit according to the assigned alphabetical order unless instructed otherwise.
  • Leaving the class during instructional hours requires permission from the teacher.
  • Attendance is taken at the beginning of each hour; latecomers require permission slips from the Principal or an authorized person.

Punctuality

All members of the college community are expected to maintain punctuality in their duties and responsibilities.

Cheating in Tests

Cheating during exams, tests, or assignments is a severe violation and will result in disciplinary action as per university norms.

Dress Code

Students, faculty, and staff are free to wear any decent and appropriate attire. There is no uniform requirement.

Property Damage

Damage to college property or theft by any individual will be dealt with seriously, with full recovery of damages.

Cleanliness

  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the campus, including toilets and common areas, is a shared responsibility.
  • Smoking, chewing betel nut, and chewing gum are strictly prohibited on campus.

Attendance

  • Students must attend at least 85% of total working days.
  • Leave applications must be signed by parents or guardians and approved by the Head of the Department.
  • Continuous absence of 15 days without a valid reason may result in expulsion.
  • Absence due to illness for more than 5 days requires a medical certificate.
  • Parents will be notified if students have irregular attendance or less than 85% attendance.
  • Failure to meet the attendance requirement may result in a condonation fee payable to the university.
  • Prolonged unapproved absence could lead to rejoining the course as per university norms.
